Description :
Sunday, 10 July 2011 Original Shuho (1898 - 1944) Japanese Woodblock Print Nunozarashi Dancer, 1936 Comments - In 1936, Shuho designed a series of ten shin hanga woodblocks illustrating traditional Japanese dancers. This lovely design from the series depicts a young beauty performing a nunozarashi dance. She gracefully waves streamers of cloth through the air, the fabric undulating fluidly as it encircles her. She wears a beautiful red kimono with a delicately embossed pattern of blossoms and leaves, the sleeves tied back with a yellow sash. Her hair is simply arranged, pulled into a low knot tied at the back of her neck with a pink ribbon. A wonderful image with flowing line work and a beautiful sense of movement. Prints by Shuho are rare, and this is a terrific example of his charming beauty subjects. A great choice for a shin hanga collector. Artist - Shuho (1898 - 1944) Image Size - 10 5/8" x 15 3/8" + margins as shown Condition - With excellent color and detail. A few light spots and some toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
