Saturday, 1 March 2008 Title Pine Trees After Snow limited edition, provenance: Robert O. Muller estate Artist Hasui Kawase 1883-1957 Signature 'Hasui'. Seal Artist's seal ('sui'). Dated 1929. Publisher Sakai - Kawaguchi. Medium/Technique Woodblock print. Impression Excellent - very good … Slightly embossed. Colors Excellent - very good. Condition Excellent - very good … Light toning. Discolorations along the left margin edge. The lower right margin slightly soiled. Edition Size 350 Numbered 166 / 350 Description "Matsu no Yukibare". Clear day after snow. Pine trees are covered by the heavy snow. Hasui made only sixteen prints for the publisher Kawaguchi and Sakai. These handful works were considered among his finest work, especially the snow scenes. This print shows well also the printing style of Kawaguchi - Sakai, which has more textured looks compare to the those of other publishers. Note "Made in Japan" stamped on verso. Provenance: Robert O. Muller estate. Edition numbers were written in Japanese on the back, also.
