60 Odd Provinces: #68, Iki Province Artist: Hiroshige I Format: Oban tate-e: 14.25" x 9.5" Subject: Shisaku. 'Snow falling from a black sky over a blue sea; in the foreground a steep conical hill, with a few small pines on it. In the middle distance a headland juts out into the sea, joined to the mainland by a low narrow neck; hilly coast-line in the background, all white with snow. A masterpiece.' Only in fine early impressions like the one we are selling is the sky carefully graded and the band of mist running across the view from the signature cartouche so effective.
