Description :
This print depicts the actor Kataoka Nizaemon in a severe-looking profile. This print is striking because of the shiny dark mica background which highlights the actor’s tiger-design kimono with a black, intricate, flower-patterned fabric. The meticulous workmanship of carver and printer as well as the sophisticated artistic design emphasize Kataoka Nizaemon’s status as a distinguished actor. (from Natori Shunsen exhibition 8/7/2006-)
