Description :
This Hasui print demonstrates two frequent ukiyo-e images: bridges and figures with umbrellas in the rain. In terms of the vertical composition, Hasui's Takino River is similar to Hiroshige's Shin-Öhashi. Hasui's depiction of rain is also influenced by Hiroshige's prints. (from Nostalgic Japan exhibition (6/8/2005-) ALT TEXT This is one of Hasui's mature prints. Again, the traditional subject is a famous place in Japan. The nostalgic scene depicts a lady in kimono and a child walking on a wooden bridge. The use of light in the house's window, the reflection of the crescent moon on the river, and the shadows of the people are examples of Western artistic influence.
