Two women and other people are reading a special report informing the public that the 47 Ako Roshi had fulfilled their vendetta by killing Kira Kozukenosuke the previous night. A very rare pre-earthquake print by Shinsui. Shinsui signature and seal at lower left. No margins, as published. Handsome scene of two beauties reading a letter, their heads close together as they study the writing. A group gathers behind them to read a similar message, standing around in the snow with interest. Beautiful soft shading in the pale winter sky. About the series: The Loyal Ronin - Fantastic design from a series of woodblock prints published in 1921 under the title "Gishi Taikan" or "The Loyal Ronin." Based on the famous tale of the 47 Ronin, these lovely images illustrate scenes from this classic story of honour and revenge.
