Description "Fukuoka Nishi Koen no Yusho" (The sunset glow at West Park in Fukuoka). "Kako" was the artist's name of the famed publisher and the co-founder of Shin-Hanga movement, Shozaburo WATANABE. He had a passing interest to make his own woodblock prints. Here, he apparently experimented on somewhat rough and individualistic "Sosaku-hanga" style. Although, the printing and the majority of carving were done by professionals, Shozaburo himself carved the ocean waves and supervised the production of prints carefully. He published only two prints under his name. Note Watanabe copyright seal (1931-41). "Made in Japan" stamped on the back. Provenance: Robert O. Muller estate.
