Description :
This is a Japanese woodblock print my grandfather bought in Japan in the 1950's when he was stationed there. The artist is Sanzo Wada, and it is printed by Kyoto Hanga, Ltd. It is a picture of a man, standing on a bridge, lighting what looks to be a cigarette, or maybe he is playing an instrument. He looks like a fisherman or a traveler, with a basket or bag on his back. Both men have walking sticks, sandals, and robes on. It has signatures on the top right, although I don't know what they mean unfortunately. See photo. The color is still good, considering this is over 5o years old! It was kept in great condition. It has a simple paper matting around it, unframed. It is an embossed drawing, pencil drawing? The paper is yellowed from age, but no rips or tears in it. There is also written on the bottom: by Sanzo Wada, and a stamp from the printer which reads: Shinagawa's Wood Block Print. Kyoto Hanga-In Co. Ltd. Toyko, and some other words I can't read. Made in Japan also (obviously!) Not sure which series this print is from. Or what it is entitled. It measures 13.25" width on inside of matting, and 10.25" high.
