Description :

A Good Japanese Woodblock Diptych by Mizuno Toshikata (1866-1908). This amusing and accomplished print shows an elderly man relaxing with a cup of sake while contemplating his latest purchase which appears to be a life-size doll in a box or a real woman in a box, perhaps a variant on the "girl in a cake" scenario! The impression is fine, the design on the kimono of the girl is like feeling braille. It is totally unfaded and is in excellent condition except for a damp stain on the lower centre margins and slight over trimming of the left hand margin. The diptych is lightly backed having been part of a collector's album at some time. It is dated 27th. year of Meiji (1894). Please note this is an original printing NOT a facsimile or reprint. The assembled size is 18 x 14 1/4 ins.
