First Series of Collected Views of Kyoto Date 1925 Publisher Sato Shotaro Edition 65/200 Format Large oban (11" X 16 1/2") Comment The Daimonji (Dai, the Chinese character for big, large) Festival is the culmination of the O-Bon festival on August 16th, in which five giant bonfires are lit on mountains surrounding Kyoto. It signifies the moment when the spirits of deceased family members, who are said to visit this world during O-Bon, are believed to be returning to the spirit world. In this design, a woman catches a reflection of the fire in a mirror.
