Description :
In 1957, my aunt, a grade school teacher, traveled to Japan. She brought back many items that I inherited after she passed away. I’ve had these items for over 20 years, and it’s time I pass them along to someone who can appreciate them as much as I have over the years. Be sure to check out the other Japanese auctions posted this week. Remember that all of these items are from 1957 or earlier. Up for sale is a superb collection of wood block prints engraved and produced by Uchida Wood Block Printer in Kyoto, Japan. The prints are housed in a hard-cover, fold-out book. Each (sparkled) framed print measures 9” x 7”. The size of each individual print, mounted on its 9” x 7” backing is 6 ?” x 5”. Originally the set held twelve prints, but only ten remain. I'm not sure how these prints were created, but my guess would be from either layering different blocks, or by hand-painting the original outline print. Whatever the process, they are excellent.
