Y .Ito Watercolor-Lakeside Scene- Misty Morning ‾1920 Watercolor mounted on card stock Image size: 9 3/4" x 12" Very subtle painting Yoshihiko Ito, (1867-1942). Born in Kyoto at the beginning of the Meiji restoration, and a painter from childhood, he like many of the cutting edge of Japanese artists of the time was strongly taken by western views of art. Graduated from the Kyoto Prefecture School of Art, studied under Tamura Soritsu, and Koyama Shotaru. Helped organize the Kansai Art Academy later in life, and became its director. His work at the first Bunten, a showing by many of the famous artists of the time won special recognition. An accomplished and respected artist of the Meiji Taisho and early Showa eras, his work is represented in several museums.
