Description :
Saturday, 11 August 2007 We are very pleased to be able to offer this highly unusual hand made woodblock print by Eiho Hirezaki (1881-1968). “Ume no Mado” (Plum Window) this is recarved edition of original kuchi-e first published by Bungei Kurabu which was dated Taisho 3 nen (1914). Here we have “Plum Window” Geisha, Yonehachi at a round window with plum blossoms. Signed “Eiho” with artist seal. Eiho was a leading kuchi-e illustrator along with Kaburagi Kiyokata. His superb talent expressed his subjects with subtle feelings and the dramatic environments in most natural and elegant ways. This elegant larger recarved edition by Soudosha Publishers from a limited edition series of only 980 sheets and published on October 1, 1977. The paper measures about 11 inches by 16 inches and is lightly embossed. Still tipped to original presentation folder. Flawless, bright colors with fill margins. Wonderful Japanese woodblock print. One of Eiho’s more popular and recognized works.
