Monday, 21 March 2005 Artist EIGYUKU (18??-19??) Title "A Beauty Jumps" (given name) Date ca1900 Series unk Publisher unk Seal, Carver/Printer unk Image Size 8 7/8 x 12 7/8 Impression Very Fine. Superbly executed "bokashi" shading; crisply detailed lines. Condition Nearly Excellent. Strong colors. (Only very slight wrinkle top margin. Two folds typical of all "kuchi-e".) Reference/Illus See Article #10: "Kuchi-e," or Literary Magazine Frontispieces. Comments Reminiscent of a Japanese legend where a shipowner's daugher sacrifices herself to calm a raging sea.
