Saturday, 1 March 2008 JAPANESE WOODBLOCK ARTIST KUNIHIRO AMANO ORIGINAL Internationally known Kunihiro Amano was born in Hirosake in 1929. He is a graduate of the Aomori Prefecural Technical School. He taught himself woodblock print making and first exhibited his prints in 1955 with the Nihon Hanga Kyokai. Kunihiro Amano is best known for his images of fantastic fish and birds. This print is a very limited edition done in 1959 and is number 32 of only 50. Simply called Fish, it is one of his most sought after and best known images. The actual print size is 20 1/2" by 14 1/2". The print is matted and in its original frame. The typed tag is from the back of the picture frame. This print is from the collection of the late John W. Barnett and purchased in Chicago in the early 70's.
