Description :

Nishikawa Sukenobu, born in Kyoto, was the fourth son of a wealthy farmer samurai originally from Ömi (current Shiga prefecture). Sukenobu began his career around 1700 by drawing and producing illustrations for Kabuki-related books and popular fiction. His work was popular, and he received commissions from various publishers, eventually producing his own illustrated books. He is known for his elegant yet realistic style, frequently based on courtly or feminine themes. (from Kamigata-e exhibition 4/1/08-)
