Description :

Benizuri-e red and green prints were an early form of color printing, using printed beni red (safflower), an organic pigment, and a mineral green, in addition to the black key-block. The color palette was an extension of earlier hand colored tan-e prints (1660s to 1710s). Characterized by bold strokes, tan-e prints referred back to earlier practices in painting, sculpture and architecture. Beni red, like most organic pigments, is unstable and susceptible to fading.
