Description :

Onoe Kikugorö (standing) as Katanaya Hanshichi and Sawamura Shigenoi as Izutsuya, both identified by inscription, appear in a scene from the 3/1745 Ichimura-za production of Satogayoi Fujimi Saigyö noted in Kiyonobu II, nos. 6 and 7. Additional support for this identification is the emblem of the Ichimura-za threatre prominently displayed on the curtain backdrop. A fourth hosoban designed for this performance is also in the Michener Collection (see Unsigned, no. 45). (“Primitive Ukiyo-e” by Dr. Howard Link, 1980)
