Description :

These four ladies passing through the torii gate of a Shinto shrine are all wearing ageböshi (a kind of hat), which demonstrates their status as ladies from the warrior’s class. The lady in a black short-sleeved kimono is perhaps the mother of the young lady in a light green long-sleeved kimono. The other two ladies might be attendants. The mother seems to be trying to get her daughter’s attention with her fan. The plum design on the daughter’s kimono clearly suggests the season of early spring.
