Description :

Sotöri-hime, the consort to Emperor Ingyö (r. 412-453), was considered one of the Three Gods of Poetry. She was also highly praised for her beauty. It was said that the beauty of her skin could penetrate her robes in radiant brilliance. The young town maidens of Edo standing beneath the willow tree are likened to Sotöri-hime. She wears a thin robe, through which her undergarments and body can be seen. (Tadashi Kobayashi, Edo Beauties in Ukiyo-e, 1994)
