Description :
This print series introduces famous restaurants in the city of Edo. In a private room of the restaurant (undoubtedly reserved for wealthier patrons), a man and a woman dressed in light summer kimono appear to play a game. A female servant approaches from the garden, carrying a tray of food, while a man seated on the porch enjoys the garden view. Here one can see commoners enjoying the sort of entertainment, good food, and pleasant atmosphere that had previously been restricted to the upper classes, but became more widely accessible during the Edo period. “Midsummer Night’s Pleasure” 08/05/2010-10/10/20100 *************************
