Description :
One of the surest ways to beat the summer heat in the stifling hot city of Edo (modern day Tokyo) would have been to go out on the water. Here Harunobu depicts two lovers in a boat. The man sits forward and appears slightly overwhelmed by the size of the woman behind him, who seems to be poling the boat through still water. (from Summer Evenings: Harunobu exhibition 5/30/06-)
