Description :

Colour woodblock print, oban triptych. Three kabuki actors dressed for travel and seen resting on their journey through an imaginary landscape (mitate). Bando Mitsugoro III (right sheet), with a short sword at his side and a tobacco pouch and pipe case hanging from his obi sash, standing before a pond with a small shrine named ‘Shuka no yashiro’ in the right background, and a larger shrine named ‘Danjo Yamato ryo dai myojin’ on the left; Iwai Hanshiro V (centre sheet) seated before the same pond with a wide travelling hat tied on his head and a cloth (tenugui) over one shoulder, with a view of ‘Mimasugatake’ mountain in the background; and Ichikawa Danjuro VII (left sheet) holding another wide hat, standing before the same pond.
