Description :
Horizontal oban (oban yoko-e) A kosho is a temple page. He is here shown impersonating the Bodhisattva Manjusri, called Monju by the Japanese. He is seated upon a shishi (fabulous Chinese lion) and is holding a folded love-letter. Upon the sleeve and back of his kimono is the character ji (child). One of his sandals (zori) has fallen off and his man servant (with a haori decorated with the character for fortune and longevity, kotobuki) is respectfully bending over to replace it.
