Description :
Although the Kabuki theatre owes its origin to a woman, by the middle of the 17th century the tradition had become established that all roles should be played by men and boys, as in the English Elizabethan theatre. Although the particular actor is not identified in the title, he most probably is a member of the Nakamura family which tended to specialize in female characterization.
