Act 9 from the kabuki version of Chushingura, the story of the revenge of the 47 ronin. Refer to our Dictionary. The vendetta leader's wife has rejected the marriage of her son to the daughter of a servant who tried to placate the ronin. Here the servant makes amends by sacrificing his life and disclosing information about the targeted Government official.
