Description :
Waiting, Celebes Menado Comments by Richard Miles: Jacoulet thought this image would appeal to occupation troops and their families, with its provocative stare, and colorful costume. The curl of smoke from the lady's cigarette is in gauffrage. It is interesting to note that the original painting was called Garcon de Menado (Boy of Menado), and depicted a transvestite in Celebese guise. There is a section around the edge of the print about 1/4" of brighter color, which was covered by a previous mat. The pink background is sprinkled with bits of silver leaf. Stamped 221/250 on verso. Richard Miles, "The Prints of Paul Jacoulet," #86, pp.66, 108.
