Description :
St. Peter cutting the ear of a Roman Soldier as Christ is being taken away. This is a rare print, being one of Watanabe's earlier works (1963), and is one of the earliest strikes at edition 2 of 50. Stencil on hand-crumpled "momigami" paper. Artist signature, date, and edition number at lower right. There is an old Yosiedo sticker on the reverse top right of the print which also gives the title of the print "Peter Cut Ear of Soldier". Previous owner states that the print has never been framed, thus what appears to be toning in the margins is probably a brown wash that the artist added to highlight the image area. The wash is quite uneven and does not form straight edges as matte toning normally would. This print will be shipped fully insured and carefully rolled in a large sturdy tube.
