Colour woodblock print, oban triptych. The kabuki actors (right to left) Ichikawa Danjuro VII as Oda Harunaga, Mimasu Gennosuke I as his retainer Mori no Ranmaru and Matsumoto Koshiro V as Takechi Mitsuhide, seated before the horse basin (‘badarai’) containing a horse’s bit that was given to him as a receptacle out of which to drink saké, in the play ‘Toki mo kikyo Oda no hosaku’, (時模様小田豊兆) (alternate title ‘Toki mo kikyo Oda no dekiaki’); performed at the Nakamura-za in the 9th month of 1825 (Bunsei 8).
