Description :
"Taisho Shinkasai Mokuhanga-shu" From the series of woodblock prints which recorded the scenery of the Great Kanto Earthquake. The statue of Jeanne d`Arc in a French-Japanese Cathoric School quietly shines in the evening glow. A Catholic Nun from the school passes by. The statue was almost miraculously still standing after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake and the following inferno. All the other buildings surrounding it were collapsed. This is one of the best designs among the 36 contributions by various artists for this series. The earthquake killed 140,000 people and devastated most of Tokyo. This print still has the original title attached on the back. The brochure of the recent exhibition about the artworks related to Great Kanto Earthquake held in the Folk Museum of Ota City will be shipped with this print.
