Description :

"Oranda Frankai no Minato, Banri Shoukei no Zu". Frankai (?) Harbor in Holland. This print is a curiosity, as the Japanese artist thought he depicted a Dutch harbor (title on the right margin). But it is definitely an image of the Canale Grande in Venice/Italy. The Japanese artist most probably made this design after an European painting or print that he had seen at the Dutch enclave of Nagasaki. The picture was made in "Uki-e" (Western style perspective) depicting the exotic scenery of an European country.
