Description :
Written by the masters of double suicide (Shinj) plays, Chikamatsu Monzaemon, the Sonezaki village suicide involves the courtesan O-Hatsu, Nakamura Ganjiro III in this print, and her lover Tokubei. At this moment of the play, O-Hatsu is sitting on the veranda of her tea-house with her lover hiding below her, concealed from view to those inside. He takes her foot and draws it across his neck as a sign that he is prepared to die with her since their love is forbidden. (description personally by the artist).
