From series, "Kabuki Juhachi-Ban" (Eighteen Famous Kabuki Plays by the Ichikawa). No. 16. "Fudo". Fudo is one of the five "Kings of Wisdom" in the Shingon sect of esoteric Buddhism. The dreadful makeup and the flame indicate its supernatural power.
