Description :
From Sosaku-hanga folio, "Ichimoku-shu" Vol. 4. "Yonenjidai no Sesshu" (The Childhood of Sesshu). Sesshu was a great painter in Edo era. He loved drawing pictures ever since his young childhood. But his parents did not want him to be an artist. One day, they found him drawing. They tied his arms to a pillar for punishment. He was very sad and crying but he drew a mouse with his toe to comfort himself using his tears as ink. The parents were astonished by the mouse which was so life-like. They finally realized Sesshu's talent and desire and permitted him to pursue the artistic career. The folio was published from "Ichimoku-kai", a small sosaku-hanga artists group established by Koshiro Onchi in 1939. The group became the spearhead to introduce Sosaku-hanga to Japanese public and the overseas later.
